You won’t always be looking for a same day couriers to handle your parcel delivery for you. For those packages that are less urgent, but just as important, you may need a next day courier service instead. On these services, a driver collects your parcel and pops it into the back of their van along with many other parcels they will collect that day. Then, once they have finished their rounds, they go back to the local depot where all the parcels are sent to a distribution centre for sorting.

Whilst we are all enjoying our evenings and getting some well earned sleep, the distribution centres are busy sorting all the parcels they have received and ensuring they go on the right truck to be delivered to the local depot to the delivery address on the parcel. This isn’t all done by hand of course, the parcels will travel along conveyor belts and very high tech equipment is used to do the sorting. We have posted a video below that shows you how UPS sort their small packages which should give you an idea of how it works.

So, once the parcels have been sorted and loaded onto the correct truck, they are driven through the night and in the very early hours of the morning, the depots open up to receive the packages from the truck driver. They then sort them on a local basis to put the packages on the smaller vans we see driving around all day. Each van will have its own route so the parcels do need to be sorted to ensure they go on the right van which is travelling the right route. This then takes care of your parcel delivery for you; it’s as simple as that!
